Foreword for Accidental SEO Manager
I first met Ash Nallawalla, on our SEO forum websites. Later we invited Ash as a lead speaker at our long running Search related conference Pubcon. Ash’s many presentations quickly earned him a reputation as a world-renowned expert in the area of SEO. So, it is not surprising to me that he would choose to share his experiences with us in these pages.
When I started working professionally as an SEO in 1997, all of our clients would all start by asking “What’s SEO?” By the time I won the US Search Awards Lifetime achievement award twenty years later, the room was full of expert international SEO practitioners and hardly a businessperson alive didn’t understand the importance of SEO. That transition has moved SEO from a fringe “one size fits all” model to a series multidisciplinary team of specialists.
Managing those teams and processes requires a deep understanding of the internet, marketing, and the technology that builds websites. Until now, there are few existing books that have that knowledge and credibility that Ash Nallawalla brings to the subject. After more than two decades building websites, and managing inhouse and agency teams, Ash shares a wealth of expertise I’ve not encountered in other SEO related books.
The content related to building and managing an SEO team is unique to educational materials available today. Previously the only place to get such knowledge was at industry conference or association sponsored events. At our own conferences, it is very difficult to get people to share their hard-earned experiences the way Ash freely does in this book.
While so many SEO documents are dated before they are even released due to changes in the industry, Ash lays out policy, SEO process, and best practices that will be as at home in five years as they are today.
